South Korean pop star Rain has been released from soldier duties in his homeland after 21 months of compulsory military service.
The singer and actor, real name Jung Ji-Hoon, took a career break in October, 2011 to serve his mandatory two-year stint in the armed forces, during which he also appeared in TV and radio advertisements to boost morale among soldiers.
The singer has now been released from duty and he was greeted by hundreds of fans as he left the Defence Ministry building in Seoul on Wednesday.
The Yonhap news agency quotes Rain as saying, "Thank you all for coming to welcome me. I'll do my best. I love you all."
Rain's time in service was mired in controversy when he was accused of breaking military rules in January following the publication of photos which appeared to show him meeting his rumoured girlfriend while on active duty.
