7 Parenting Tips for Working from Home with Young Children Little ...

[By L.R.Knost, author of ?Two Thousand Kisses a Day: Gentle Parenting Through the Ages and Stages now available on Amazon]

busy momWith economies struggling all over the world, more and more moms are trying to juggle work and children. Working from home is one way to earn a living or supplement your household income while still parenting full-time, but it comes with its own unique set of challenges. Here are seven tips to help you parent your little ones gently while operating a home business:

1. Think ?routine? instead of ?schedule.? Gentle parenting is very much about being in-sync with your child?s needs. Being tied to an inflexible schedule will only cause stress and conflict as your child?s needs evolve from day to day, week to week, month to month, and year to year. Children do, however, enjoy the comfort and familiarity of a regular routine, and knowing what to expect helps them to make transitions throughout the day. So, instead of making a minute to minute schedule, try working with your child to establish a routine that?s flexible enough to adjust to meet their fluctuating needs, but builds into your day the time you need to devote to your work. For example, a routine could look something like this:

    • Morning cuddles, breakfast, playtime with mommy
    • Playtime while mommy works
    • Snack and storytime with mommy
    • Play while mommy works
    • Lunch and outside playtime with mommy
    • Naptime while mommy works
    • Playtime with mommy
    • Playtime while mommy works
    • Help mommy with dinner
    • Dinnertime
    • Help mommy clean up after dinner
    • Playtime while mommy works
    • Evening snack
    • Bathtime, bedtime story, cuddles, night-night time

Notice that there are no time limits, only a loose plan for the day that you can adjust if your little one is sick or teething or just needs some extra mommy time during the day. A younger baby will need more naps during the day and can be worn in a baby carrier for naps and/or in place of playtime, and some toddlers and preschoolers will outgrow their need for naps earlier than others, and some will need more outside time, etc. so you?ll want to come up with a routine that accommodates your child?s age, sleep needs, and temperament. Also, of course, if your spouse or a trusted family member or friend is available to help, be sure to include them in your routine.

    2. Children love the novelty value of new toys, so get a box for each of your working days of the week. Label each box with one day of the week and place a set of toys in them that you only bring out on that day. Remember to think outside the box (lol) and don?t only choose store-bought toys. One box could be full of paper towel and toilet paper tubes and various sizes of bouncy balls and hot wheels, etc. so your little one can make tunnels and chutes and all sorts of inventions. Another box could have kitchen utensils and bowls and pots and pans. Don?t be afraid of a little mess, either! Children are washable, and messy play can keep them happily engaged for long stretches of time, so in one box you could have a plastic tablecloth from the dollar store or even a little blow-up wading pool, some paintbrushes, and shaving cream. Just put down the tablecloth or blow up the pool and add a touch of different colors of food coloring to a few small bowls of shaving cream let your little Picasso go to town! The trick is to be creative and choose things that are out of the ordinary that will engage your child?s imagination, not just keep them busy.

    3. For older preschoolers or early elementary ages, an independent project is an excellent idea to help them stay happily engaged while you?re working. During your work periods, provide your child with an ongoing project that they?re interested in and can work on independently. It can be a paint-by-number project, a jigsaw puzzle, a simple model car, a jewelry making set, or any number of other things. Since time is a hard concept for young children, setting a timer for your work periods and having a little sticker chart on the fridge for you and your child to ?clock in? and ?clock out? of work might be a fun, helpful part of your routine, as well.

    4. Meal planning is a huge, huge help in freeing up time and mental energy. Take the time to write out a list of every meal you know how to make that your family likes, then break each of those meals down into their ingredients. Save the list on your laptop, and then twice a month simply cut and paste two weeks of meals into a Word doc. Then print it out, cross off any ingredients you already have on hand, and ?voila? you have a shopping list and menu for two weeks done in one shot!

    5. Simplify, simplify, simplify. Be realistic about your commitments and expectations for yourself. Have fruit and cheese for breakfast most mornings instead of eggs and pancakes and sausage. It?s healthier, faster, and there?s less to cleanup! Resign from any pre-working-at-home commitments you can such as directing your church?s Vacation Bible School or doing the book work for your local food pantry. No one expects you to be able to do everything, and someone else can take on those tasks while you?re doing double duty as a work-and-stay-at-home-mom. And, once you?ve cleared up your commitments, avoid the temptation to fill up your time with playgroups and playdates and mommy-and-me classes. Your little ones need you, not activities.

    6. Don?t be afraid to go mobile. Find a local park that is suitable for your child?s age and temperament (i.e. Don?t go to a park with a lake if your little one is a runner, and don?t choose a playground with only big kid slides and jungle gyms if you?ve got a toddler.). Once you?ve found a park that?s a good fit, take your laptop or iPhone and answer emails or return phone calls or do other simple tasks that you can manage while swinging your little one in a baby swing or watching your toddler dig in the sand. Make sure you take the time to play with them while you?re there, too, and don?t worry if you get a few judgmental looks from other parents. They don?t know your life, but you know you?re doing the best you can to meet your child?s needs while doing what you need to do for work, so take comfort in that knowledge.

    7. Don?t forget to take care of yourself! We can get so caught up in meeting our family?s needs at times that we forget to take care of our own needs. Make sure you include a bit of downtime in your routine each day to simply be still and have a cup of coffee or read the newspaper or simply stare out the window and daydream for a few minutes. Take the time on a regular basis to do your nails, go have your hair done, and make a lunch date with a friend. Even if you bring your little one with you, you?ll still be out and about in a non-working environment for a bit and actually get to feel like an adult. If you?ve got a teething baby or a sick child and aren?t getting much sleep at night, take a nap during the day when your little one?s asleep instead of working during their nap. You may get a bit less work done, but you?ll enjoy your life and your family more, and isn?t that really the point of it all anyway?

'Freakshow's' Armless Wonder threads a needle with his toes

    By Drusilla Moorhouse, TODAY contributor

Jim, otherwise known as The Armless Wonder, was born without arms or hands, but there's nothing he can't do. Don't believe it? You'll change your mind after watching this exclusive "Freakshow" clip AMC shared with The Clicker.

The cameras follow Jim performing his morning routine -- shaving, brushing his teeth, sipping coffee while reading the newspaper, sewing?

    Hold up!

Yes, while, most of us can barely thread a needle with 10 fingers, Jim does it effortlessly with his toes.

"I don't consider myself disabled," Jim said. And why should he? He also writes, drives, plays sports and goes fishing.

"If you find something I can't do," he added, "then we'll talk."

We don't expect to be having that conversation anytime soon.

"Freakshow" airs Thursdays at 9:30 p.m. on AMC.

Xi3?s David Politis Says Piston Will Combine The Best Features Of PCs And Consoles

pistonXi3 recently opened preorders for Piston, the company's gaming-optimized personal computer. I actually had a chance to speak to the company's chief marketing officer David Politis over the weekend at South by Southwest Interactive, where he described the device as a combination of the best aspects of PCs and gaming consoles:
Consoles are great because they're small, they've got a great environment, but they are closed and you can't update them. Computers, on the other hand, they're typically great because there's a lot of software for 'em, you can run basic computing things, you can surf the web and all of that, but they're typically really big and they typically suck power. And they're ugly.

Cyber attack cuts access to JPMorgan Chase site

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The consumer banking website of JPMorgan Chase & Co was unavailable to some users on Tuesday as the company tried to deal with a denial-of-service cyber attack that slowed access for some customers.

The latest problems on Chase.com came as intelligence officials said for the first time on Tuesday that cyber attacks and cyber espionage have surpassed terrorism as the top security threat facing the United States.

JPMorgan and other major U.S. banks, including Bank of America Corp and Citigroup Inc, have recently warned their investors that their sites have been attacked and that the assaults could continue.

JPMorgan spokesman Michael Fusco said the company continued to work late Tuesday to restore normal service. He declined to say how long the Chase.com site had been down during the day.

Attempts by Reuters journalists to access the site showed mobile apps worked but efforts to log in through a personal computer brought up a notice that the site was down.

The assessment of cyber attacks came in an annual "worldwide threat" briefing and was reinforced by testimony from James Clapper, the Director of National Intelligence, to the U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee.

Cyber attacks on companies, particularly on U.S. banks, are getting worse, Army General Keith Alexander, head of the U.S. military's Cyber Command, said in a separate hearing of the Senate Armed Services Committee.

Starting in September, a hacker activist group called the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Cyber Fighters said it was targeting major banks with denial-of-service cyber attacks. The attacks can disrupt service by deluging Web sites with high traffic.

In December, customers of Wells Fargo & Co had trouble using the bank's site for at least four days.

History of mobile phones:Add New Knowledge to your Brain so that you can be able to know each and every thing about the thing you are holding in your hand 24*7 a day. so must checkout and add knowledge to your mind for an great view of mobile phones.

history of mobile phone for students

    ?

While a patent was issued as early as 1908 for a cell cellphone unit, the actual know-how of cellular network calling, as we know it at this time wasn?t established until 1984 in Japan. Even at this early time, cellphones were too large to be carried easily in a pocket so most have been installed in autos to be used as automotive phones until 1990.

The mobile phone has become so common in some international locations that the numbers of telephones out number the population. Africa at the moment has the biggest progress fee of cell phone subscribers and India has the largest progress market, adding 6 million subscribers each month.

What as soon as started as an uncommon and expensive type of communication has abruptly become the world most typical and cheap item saved on a person. Within the U.S. 50 percent of children carry their very own cell phone. In lots of nations, cellphones outnumber landline phones. This is because of the ease of use and the cost. The place it?s dearer to run a telephone line all through a town or village, folks can personal cellphones at a much more affordable rate.

As soon as used as an easy wireless method to communicate has changed to nearly a miniature computer small enough to slip into ones pocket. Now cell phones can take images, can entry the Internet and e-mails, and even store a collection of downloadable music. What an advancement we?ve made in such a brief time. It makes one marvel what?s next in the high tech gadget world for our mobile phone users.

Where will expertise take us? With the introduction of the latest devices yearly, the consultants have given us the expertise to put almost every thing we do into one little device. The Mobile Phone.

As soon as simply used for easy individual-to-person contact, the mobile phone has grown up so much since its introduction in the 90?s. Even your basic cell phones offer a collection of advanced features. The place will it finish? Will our mobile phone in the future run our lives? Unlock our automobiles perhaps? Be used as a distant control for our tv?

After all, you?ll be able to place calls along with your mobile phone from almost anyplace and at anytime. Of course there are nonetheless a few places on the market where the sign antennas don?t reach, but before long, this wont matter.

One other feature that is extra widespread on phones now?s textual content messaging. This works simply the identical as immediate messengers on our computers.
People can talk to each other via text. This makes conversing easier when one person is otherwise occupied and can?t keep an actual conversation at the time. Another feature most telephones have nowadays is a digital camera. This characteristic has each its execs and cons.

Most people don?t carry a digital camera with them at all times for those moments once we want we did have one. They have proven helpful in situations like automotive accidents, legal conditions, and even catching the occasional embarrassing second on film.

    mobiles used as gadgets

However there have also been arguments with reference to privacy. People have been discovered using the camera phone for spying on other individuals in locations like dressing rooms and underneath tables.

Cell telephones now provide so many extra advanced options. Things corresponding to MP3 gamers, FM radios, GPS companies and superior Internet capabilities. Someday, our cell phones could exchange our pocket book computers in their capabilities.

what is your delusion of reference? - Psychology and Mental Health ...

Very interesting topic! I can't wait to see others responses.

My own personal one is that when it is overcast (particularly at night if the stars are not visible), then I feel that the gods are unable to hear me when I pray. Almost like an experience of being abandoned by them. Which triggers an intense, very brief depression and extreme anxiety.

I am completely aware that it's my delusion and recognise that in my case it is related to my experiencing SAD (seasonal affective disorder). It used to trouble me immensely, as I spent most of my life living in the rainy Pacific Northwest. However, I moved to intensly sunny Australia a bit back (to be with my partner) and since then it is much less intense when it does occur. The climate change truly helped me with the SAD and the intensity of my delusion is greatly reduced on our rare overcast days.

Funny how the mind works. :)

    A changed Venezuela after Ch?vez?

A survey of opinions about what Hugo Ch?vez's passing means for Venezuela, and the region.

    By Arthur Bright,?Staff writer / March 7, 2013

A Caracas resident puts up the national flag next to a poster of Venezuela's late President Hugo Ch?vez, in Caracas, Thursday. Venezuelans flocked to pay tribute to Ch?vez as he lied in state at the Military Academy two days after his passing.

Earlier today, Mr. Ch?vez lay in state at the military academy where he began his career, drawing hundreds of thousands of mourners ? including the presidents of Argentina, Bolivia, and Uruguay ? reports the Associated Press.

And his funeral, scheduled for tomorrow, will be attended by both friends and foes of the firebrand leader. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, a close ally of Ch?vez's, left Tehran today for Venezuela, reports AP. And the Los Angeles Times adds that Washington also plans to send a delegation ? despite Ch?vez's tempestuous relationship with the US.

In fact, it is not surprising that so many dignitaries will attend, since Ch?vez had a profound effect both on his country and his region ? though opinions remain sharply divided on whether that effect was good or bad.? Either way, his attention to Venezuela's poor reshaped the political scene in both Venezuela and Latin America, the Monitor reports.

?The poor remember that no Venezuelan government ever cared for them or nurtured them or provided them with resources, and although Ch?vez is a lot of ?blah blah blah,? he also is a guy who has come through for [the poor],? [Larry Birns, director of the Council on Hemispheric Affairs,] says. ...

Many of the once disenfranchised found new political power during Ch?vez?s leadership, which the president?s passing will not take away, no matter who holds power in the future. Opposition candidates in the primary in the October 2012 presidential race all promised to continue Ch?vez's emphasis on social inclusion ? underscoring the fact that such a stance is considered essential to winning a race in Venezuela, or anywhere else in Latin America, today.

But Ch?vez didn't just provide guidance to Latin America's leftist leaders. He also provided some with direct financial support ? support that blogger Anya Landau French warns may not be so generous under future Venezuelan governments. That could have a huge impact on beneficiaries like Cuba, she writes.

Not unsurprisingly, many in and out of Cuba now wonder if the loss of Ch?vez is the death knell of the Castros? Revolution, or, perhaps could it inject urgent momentum into Raul Castro?s reform agenda, just in the nick of time? In some ways, the loss of Hugo Ch?vez, on its face so devastating for Cuba, might actually be a good thing for the island. With Nicolas Maduro a favorite to win the special presidential election a month from now, Cuba will likely retain significant influence. But Maduro is no Ch?vez. He?ll have to focus on building up his own political capital, without the benefit of Ch?vez?s charisma. While he surely won?t cut Cuba off, to maintain power he will almost certainly need to respond to increasing economic pressures at home with more pragmatic and domestically focused economic policies. And that likelihood, as well as the possibility that the Venezuelan opposition could win back power either now or in the medium term, should drive Cuban leaders to speed up and bravely deepen their tenuous economic reforms on the island.

Regardless, says Mark Weisbrot, co-director of the Center for Economic and Policy Research in Washington, Ch?vez "made Venezuela a much more independent country, and made South America more independent of the US than Europe is today.?

In the West, and the US in particular, there is hope that Venezuela's post-Ch?vez government will soothe the country's often contentious international relations ? though at least in the US, the Monitor reports, "no one expects tensions to evaporate from the relationship overnight."

?Ch?vez conditioned much of Venezuela to think negatively of the US,? says Eric Farnsworth, vice president of the Council of the Americas and Americas Society in Washington. Many Venezuelans won?t forget quickly Ch?vez?s claims, especially early in his rule, that the Central Intelligence Agency was trying to assassinate him or that the US was behind a 2002 military coup that briefly forced him from office.

?Healing is going to take time,? he says, ?and I?m not convinced that whoever takes over after Ch?vez will be that interested in healing.?

Ch?vez's political heir, Vice President Nicolas Maduro, showed that immediate changes were not coming on Wednesday, when he accused the US of being behind the late president's death and promised to investigate further. Mr. Maduro is set to run in upcoming elections to succeed Ch?vez, and is expected to rely heavily on anti-US rhetoric to rally support.

The US isn't alone in hoping for more consistent, positive relations with post-Ch?vez Caracas. Spain, as Europe's main liaison with Latin America, has had a hot-and-cold relationship with former colony Venezuela, the Monitor reported yesterday. Although Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Garc?a Margallo described the ties between the two countries as "solid relations," he conceded that the Venezuelan president was an obstacle.

Referring to pending free trade negotiations between the EU and the South American Mercosur trade block, Margallo said Ch?vez had enormous influence. ?Honestly, I think that a Venezuela with the parameters Ch?vez defended would have made negotiations impossible," he said.

?I don?t know what is going to happen, but it?s very important to us,? he added.

Stoudemire, who had been playing well off the bench, will have the procedure to remove tissue within the week, the Knicks said Saturday before their game against the Utah Jazz.

Stoudemire missed the first 30 games after having the same surgery, called a debridement, on his left knee during the preseason. He returned on New Year's Day and has averaged 14.2 points in 29 games as a reserve.

"I feel for the young man because he put so much time and hard work in, but we've got to go on," Knicks coach Mike Woodson said.

The Knicks were also without Carmelo Anthony, sitting out his third straight game with a sore and stiff right knee.

But the Stoudemire news was a surprise, since there was no indication there had been any problem with his surgically repaired knees until Saturday morning.

Stoudemire didn't take part in the Knicks' morning shootaround, and had an MRI later in the day.

Leading the Brooklyn Nets by 2 1/2 games entering play Saturday, the Knicks have to hope Stoudemire can return for the playoffs.

"It's a loss, a major loss, to what we're trying to do, but you know we're going to have to wait on him and continue our climb," Woodson said. "We can't sit and sulk and feel sad and upset about it. It's what it is and guys have got to step up and play."

Stoudemire has a history of knee injuries that made the $100 million contract he signed in 2010 uninsurable. The Knicks were being especially careful since his latest surgery, keeping him on a minutes restriction that started in the low 20s and had recently grown to 30 minutes a night.

And once Anthony was hurt, the Knicks had no choice but to use Stoudemire right to ? and even over ? that limit. He played 32 minutes Monday in Cleveland, the game in which Anthony was injured, and went 31 minutes two nights later in a victory over Detroit, tying his season high with 22 points in each game.

He scored 16 points Thursday in a loss to Oklahoma City, playing 29 minutes and even throwing down an impressive dunk over Thunder defensive star Serge Ibaka. So even the Knicks were surprised to learn they would be without him again.

"Not what we expected to hear, that's for sure," forward Steve Novak said. "It was like he was out there getting buckets, dunking on guys a day ago, and he's hurt, so I feel bad for him. I think that the way he was playing, his confidence was high, and you just don't want to see him get hurt again."

Though his main injury last season was his back, Stoudemire has battled knee injuries throughout his career. The Knicks originally said he would be out two to three weeks with a ruptured cyst in his left knee during the preseason, but that became a lengthy absence for surgery.

The Knicks already lost another reserve forward, Rasheed Wallace, likely for the remainder of the regular season because of foot surgery. Marcus Camby has been injury-prone, so Stoudemire's injury could open additional time for Kenyon Martin, who just signed with the Knicks last month after sitting out all season.

They are calling Anthony day to day. He received more treatment Saturday and it is unclear if he will play on their upcoming road trip, which includes what would be his first trip back to Denver since the Nuggets traded him to the Knicks in February 2011.

AT&T 'we unlock our customers' devices'

To our delight, the recent ruling that phone subsidy unlocks are no longer protected by copyright law has sparked a lot of attention from the general public as well as the US government. However, some of the carriers are predictably not too excited by the amount of negative light it sheds on their own unlock policies. AT&T has taken to its public policy blog to discuss its viewpoint on the matter. Joan Marsh, VP of Federal Regulatory for the company, insists that "the ruling has very little impact on AT&T customers."

Marsh reiterates AT&T's unlock policy by stating: "if we have the unlock code or can reasonably get it from the manufacturer, AT&T currently will unlock a device for any customer whose account has been active for at least sixty days; whose account is in good standing and has no unpaid balance; and who has fulfilled his or her service agreement commitment. If the conditions are met we will unlock up to five devices per account per year."

DNP Cambridge Consultants develops indoor tracking tech that picks up where GPS drops off

Indoor navigation isn't a new concept, but it often requires wireless signals or custom infrastructure, neither of which are entirely reliable. Cambridge Consultants has come up with an as-yet-unnamed technology that purports to solve the issue by utilizing low-power sensors along with a custom formula that don't require an existing framework. According to the Cambridge, UK-based company, all you need are its special Bayesian algorithm and run-of-the-mill smartphone components like accelerometers, gyroscopes and magnetometers to do the job. It has already built a concept chipset (seen above) that could be embedded in existing devices -- you can either map your location directly on it or send that info off to a remote system. The firm says the technology will be useful for firefighters and hospital workers, though we wouldn't complain if it's implemented in trade shows either. For more information on the tech, check the press release after the break.

Ladwig leads way to WSU baseball win over Oral Roberts

Oral Roberts opted for a bullpen day against Wichita State on Tuesday, using 10 pitchers ? seven that threw less than one inning.

WSU had a bullpen day, too ? a bullpen day off.

A.J. Ladwig allowed two hits over 6 2/3 innings, necessitating the appearance of just one Shockers reliever in WSU?s 8-1 win at Eck Stadium. Ladwig didn?t allow a hit until the sixth inning, carrying a shutout into the seventh in a rebound from two subpar outings to start the year.

?That?s the whole story,? WSU coach Gene Stephenson said. ?A.J. came out and not only got ahead in the count but made some really good pitches with two strikes on the hitters. That?s something he?d been not doing so well and that?s why people were getting base hits off him a lot.?

WSU (6-4) hadn?t played a home game since Feb. 18, when Pittsburgh finished off a three-game sweep before eight games were canceled because of weather. The Shockers returned from an impromptu five-game stretch in Arkansas a vastly different team than the one that departed.

The Shockers won four of five games in Arkansas to go above .500, scoring 33 runs after being held to four or fewer in two games against Pittsburgh. The greatest contrast between the early-season Shockers and the present-day version was the performance of Ladwig, a sophomore right-hander.

In his two previous starts, Ladwig allowed 16 hits and eight runs in 9 1/3 innings. Examining Ladwig?s statistics more carefully suggested a possible turnaround, as he struck out 11 with one walk in spite of his 7.71 ERA.

On Tuesday, Ladwig continued his pattern of strike throwing but without the mistakes that caused trouble in his earlier outings.

Without the velocity to overpower batters, Ladwig relies on superior location. He established that early by striking out three of the first seven batters, then he worked the edges of the plate even further to induce weak contact as his start progressed.

His command was best exhibited in the downward movement of his two-seam fastball and changeup, and it baffled the Golden Eagles, whose only baserunner before the sixth inning came on a two-out walk in the third. A leadoff double in the seventh led to ORU?s only run.

?I was just spotting up and I had all my pitches working for me, so that?s a big help,? Ladwig said.

WSU?s consistency at the plate didn?t always translate to tangible production, but the Shockers? execution made clutch hits more possible and helped lead to a pair of big innings.

A hit-and-run single and a bunt hit by Garrett Bayliff preceded Erik Harbutz?s two-run double in WSU?s four-run third inning, and Mikel Mucha sparked a three-run seventh with a single and a stolen base. Every Shocker starter had a hit, and WSU?s top three hitters reached base seven times.

?I thought we did a real good job in those two innings where we were able to manufacture a few runs,? Stephenson said. ?We got a couple of bunts down for base hits and that was really good. Then we got a key base hit with two outs from Harbutz, and we strung together some key base hits in that (seventh) inning.?

    ?

Note ? Stephenson said Zach Beringer, who suffered eight fractured vertebrae and knee injuries in an alcohol-related car accident in Nov. 2011, will start Wednesday?s game against Nebraska-Omaha. Beringer?s injuries kept him out all of last season, and Stephenson suspended him for the first 10 games of this year. Tobin Mateychick, a passenger in the vehicle, was suspended for 10 games following his return from elbow surgery last March. ?He was ready to go at the start of the season,? Stephenson said. ?He?s fine. He?s going to be all right, I think.?

Mistrial declared in 3rd trial of drug conspiracy

(AP) ? A judge declared a mistrial Monday in the case of a D.C. nightclub owner charged with drug conspiracy ? 2 ? years after his previous conviction was tossed out because police used a global positioning device to track him without a warrant.

U.S. District Court Judge Ellen Segal Huvelle declared the mistrial when jurors could not reach a verdict for Antoine Jones after more than seven days of deliberations.

Jones' first trial, in 2007, ended in a mistrial. He was convicted in a second trial and sentenced to life, but a federal appeals court reversed. The U.S. Supreme Court upheld the reversal last year in a major decision that has prompted police to seek search warrants more often before they use GPS tracking devices.

Huvelle told the jurors she was declaring a mistrial with "great, great regret."

The two sides will appear before the judge again on Tuesday afternoon.

"I fully expect the government will announce it will retry this case," prosecutor Darlene Soltys told Huvelle.

The government alleged that Jones was linked to a house in Fort Washington, Md., where authorities found nearly $1 million in cash and nearly 100 kilograms of cocaine.

Jones represented himself in the case, although he did have the assistance of court-appointed lawyers.

In this March 3, 2013, photo provided by VosIzNeias.com, Orthodox Jewish mourners gather outside the Congregation Yetev Lev D'Satmar synagogue in Brooklyn's Williamsburg neighborhood for the funeral of two expectant parents who were killed in a car accident early Sunday, in New York. (AP) ? A close-knit ultra-Orthodox Jewish community in Brooklyn was plunged into a new round of mourning Monday by the death of a baby who was delivered by cesarean section after his parents were killed in a grisly hit-and-run crash a day earlier.

Police hunted for the suspected driver, identified as Julio Acevedo, saying he was barreling down a residential street in a BMW at 60 mph, or twice the speed limit, early Sunday when he collided with a car hired to take the couple to the hospital.

The death of the newborn on Monday piled tragedy upon tragedy and compounded the community's grief.

The baby was buried near the fresh graves of his parents, Nachman and Raizy Glauber, both 21, according to Isaac Abraham, a spokesman for the Hasidic Jewish community. About a thousand community members turned out for the young couple's funeral a day earlier.

"The mood in the neighborhood is very heavy," said Oscar Sabel, a retired printer who lives near the scene of the accident. "We all hoped the baby would survive."

Brooklyn is home to the largest community of ultra-Orthodox Jews outside Israel, more than 250,000. The couple wed last year in a marriage arranged through a matchmaker and were living in the Williamsburg neighborhood.

They were members of the Satmar Hasidic sect, whose men dress in dark coats and hats, wear long beards like their Eastern European ancestors and have limited dealings with the outside world. Raizy Glauber grew up in a prominent rabbinical family. Her husband was studying at a rabbinical college; his family founded a line of clothing for Orthodox Jews.

Sabel, dressed in the traditional long black coat of the Satmar, said it was a terrible tragedy.

"But it's what God wants," he said. "Maybe the baby's death, and his parents', is not for nothing; God doesn't have to give us answers."

Shortly after midnight Sunday, Raizy Glauber, who was seven months pregnant, wasn't feeling well, so the couple decided to go to the hospital, said Sara Glauber, Nachman Glauber's cousin. They called a livery cab, a hired car that is arranged via telephone, not hailed off the street like a yellow cab.

The livery cab had a stop sign, but it's not clear if the driver stopped. Police said the crash with the BMW reduced the cab to a crumpled heap, and Raizy Glauber was thrown from the wreck. The engine ended up in the back seat, Abraham said.

Police said the driver of the BMW ran away.

The baby weighed only about 4 pounds when he was delivered, neighbors and friends said. He died of extreme prematurity, the city medical examiner's office said.

The driver of the livery cab, Pedro Nunez Delacruz, was knocked unconscious but was not seriously hurt. His vehicle should not have been sent to pick up the passengers because an application to use the Toyota as a livery cab had not yet been approved, the city Taxi and Limousine Commission said.

Acevedo, 44, was arrested last month on a charge of driving while under the influence, and the case is pending. He served about a decade in prison in the 1990s for manslaughter. No one answered the door at Acevedo's last known address, in a public housing complex in Brooklyn. Neighbors said his mother lived in the same building, but she did not answer her door.

"We in the community are demanding that the prosecutor charge the driver of BMW that caused the death of this couple and infant ... with triple homicide," Abraham said in a statement. "This coward left the scene of the accident not even bothering to check on the people of the other car."

How Acevedo came to possess the BMW is also under investigation. The registered owner, Takia Walker, was arrested on insurance fraud charges Sunday in a scam involving the car, police said. She was not involved in the crash. A telephone number registered to Walker rang unanswered.

A person familiar with the investigation said Walker bought the car legally, or allowed her identification to be used in the purchase, then gave the vehicle to a middleman who either lent or rented it out to the driver. The person was not authorized to speak publicly and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.
